The Monticello Community Historical Society is
dedicated to the appreciation, preservation, and
celebration of the history and heritage of the
Monticello Township community in Johnson
County, Kansas. The old towns of Monticello,
Wilder, Holliday, Zarah, and Craig were once part
of the township. (Historic sites such as Chouteau
Trading Post, the Virginia School, and the Union
Cemetery are a few of the valued sites.) The
township area is today the western sections of
Shawnee and Lenexa, Kansas. A small part on
the north is now Bonner Springs, and a small
part on the south is now Olathe, Kansas
